When I Were Young My Father Said;

What would you change about modern society?

Hello one and all, and can I say you are all looking dam fine today,

What would I change about modern society, oh my goodness are you having a laugh with this question? Well give me a month to write about everything I would change and I would have only just have scratched the surface.

Oh, the illusion of choice in the modern world – don’t get me started. But don’t you agree that the Internet has softened our brains and made us forget that ‘choice’ used to mean something different from selecting options from menus? Lynne Truss

If like me and I am in my late 50’s, you grew up hearing, when I were young we didn’t have this, or that, we walked everywhere, then my generation add in we played outside not sat indoors on games etc. I would like to change that, take us back to a less stressful time for children and teenagers. I expect to be argued with over this but I have thought a lot about this.

My own children stayed in and played on games machines and mobile phones and PCs more than I probably liked , I took them out on picnics and they had a good sized garden to camp out in, but one thing had changed since I was a child, I don’t know if it was the reporting on a newly emerging social media, the newspapers or an actual increase of child predators but it was and is not safe to allow your children to play out like when I was a child. Not just for that reason but we have the increase of drug use, crime and whereas before the traffic was far less than today. Education system is totally screwed up, if you are not academically clever they almost right you off now. Back some years ago if you were not so good academically then you had day release into a job sector that suited the abilities they had. So that is my first point I would change the rate our children have to grow up and the pressures and demands placed on them. They are only young once let them enjoy it, we did.

On a world scale war, famine, starvation, pain, which if we break down sensibly war is by far the most damaging and impacts on the planet, famine and pain. So I am only going to choose this one WAR

War; humans have fought and lost wars, battles, skirmishes even arguments since time began, I think it a part of the DNA of humans, an unconscious need to take what belongs to another, to be superior, to be in charge. Politicians definitely have this in bucket loads 🙊. Now within modern society it has become literally one country pushing a button against another and a second country and goodbye world 🌎 as we know it. That is something I would love to change the ability to manufacture weapons to zero. Arguing zero. We all know we need a ruling authority but not power hungry narcissists that lie to fill their own pockets

My friends it must be boring reading other other people’s thoughts and ideas for a better world. Just never forget that although we cannot just snap our fingers and life changes. There is always the power of positive thought and action . One last thing, you have the power within yourself to change one thing in this modern world for the better

YOURSELF

My first change is to send you a smile 😃
